Maharashtra government led by Eknath Shinde to face ground test
The Aghadi government led by Uddhav Thackeray had collapsed after heavy political upheaval and the split of Shiv Sena is visible in Maharashtra. After that, under rebel leader Shiv Sena Eknath Shinde, his faction and the BJP together formed a new government. The Shinde government will seek a vote of confidence in the Assembly on Monday. On the very first day of Sunday’s extraordinary session, the Shinde-led BJP government won a landslide victory in the election of the president. BJP’s Rahul Narvekar was elected president.
Shinde, who also had the support of independents – bringing the total number to 50 – formed the government with the BJP, which has 106 MPs in the House.
A party or alliance needs 145 MPs to prove its majority in the Maharashtra Assembly, which has 288 members.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to expand cabinet
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will expand his cabinet on Monday and during this period five MPs are likely to be appointed as ministers, as reported by the PTI news agency. An official said the swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Punjab Raj Bhavan at 5 p.m. Monday.
It will be the first cabinet expansion in more than three months after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) formed the government in Punjab. With five more ministers taking the oath, the number of ministers in Mann’s cabinet will increase to 15, including the chief minister.
After the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) formed the state government following a landslide victory in this year’s parliamentary elections, the Mann-led cabinet inducted 10 MPs as ministers.
