Why Rockstar Bans Anyone From Talking About GTA 6 On Twitch

In February, Rockstar confirmed that the development of Grand Theft Auto VI is on track. In July, subsidiary TakeTwo announced that it would no longer work on Red Dead Redemption 2 or its online offering to focus on developing the next title from the mega-popular GTA series. Despite this, talking about the next installment in the 25-year-old franchise is discouraged, at least on Rockstar Games’ official Twitch channel. This follows behavior the company has also begun exposing on YouTube.

When users attempt to type GTA VI Where GTA 6, they are greeted with the message that appears when a banned word or filter is applied on Twitch channels – “Your post has not been posted due to conflicts with channel moderation settings.” Publishers silencing people on their own platforms about titles is nothing new. Wild speculation can often draw attention to things the developers may not want to reveal or don’t yet have information about.

Grand Theft Auto VI not expected to be available until 2024. The current belief is that Rockstar wants to focus marketing on the grand theft auto online part of their business. GTA online showed a steady player base and persistent revenue for the company. There is potential for loss of funds if people’s attention is diverted from what is currently making them money.

Very little is known about the new title. Some people have dared to speculate that we might see a return to Vice City, the fictional town based on South Florida towns in the United States. Right now, the only information anyone has from Rockstar for sure is that it’s in the works. Everything else is most likely speculation.

There’s also concern that Rockstar employees aren’t necessarily sticking around for very long right now. This follows some trends that have been happening in the world of game development recently. The mistreatment of workers at Activision-Blizzard led employees at one of its subsidiaries to form a union. Hopefully things remain stable enough at Rockstar and TakeTwo to GTA VI to arrive on time, however.
